bumper
yield of crops, fruits or even flowers requires an adequate supply
of three basic elements - nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, along
with other micro-nutrients and humus. Traditionally, farmers have
supplied these to the soil through the use of organic manure such
as cattle dung and farm wastes or composts.
Over the last 30 years there was a perceptible switch towards the
use of chemical fertilizers. Extensive and repeated use of these
has degraded soil quality, resulting in progressively reduced crop
yield. Moreover, indiscriminate use of these chemical fertilizers
has turned vast expanses of agricultural land into useless, unproductive
land. In fact, every dose of chemical fertilizers is leading to further
damage to the soil quality.
Furthermore, we are today exposed to toxic chemicals of all kinds
which are being absorbed by our body through various media giving
rise to a plethora of diseases and maladies. However, there is growing
awareness among people about the hazards of toxic chemicals to mankind
and more and more people are opting to eat food that has been grown
organically.
We, at Biotechnology Resource Centre have striven right from its
inception to address these problems to the best of our ability. In
fact, BRC was established mainly to produce
genuine, cost-effective,
environment-friendly biofertilizers and bio-repellents for which
there was a pressing need felt by the farming community. At the same
time, we derive great satisfaction from the fact that we are doing
our bit to reduce the dependence on chemical fertilizers and repellents
that are playing havoc with our health and eco-system.
